Warriors blank Mounts

In the moments leading up to Warwick’s District Three Class 4A boys soccer first-round game with visiting Ephrata Tuesday, the Warriors congregated in a team huddle in the middle of the field. And with the wind howling around them, senior Robbie Heckman delivered an impassioned pregame speech.

The Mounts overwhelmed host Pequea Valley 45-0 [box score] on Friday night in Lancaster-Lebanon League Section Three football action to reach four wins on the season. They would reach the .500 mark with a win next Friday against Octorara, a feat that amid a 52-game losing streak which ended earlier this season was considered unthinkable.

Raiders drop Lady Mounts

For Ryelle Shuey, Julia Nelson, Jennifer Axarlis and Jordan Rosengrant, the senior core of the Elco girls soccer team, their regular season careers have been an unparalleled success. The postseason, not so much.

Still looking for their first L-L tournament victory, they led their teammates onto the pitch at Lancaster Catholic Saturday morning with a purpose.

“We were very prepared and excited to play,” said Shuey, whose hat trick and assist paced the Raiders to a 4-1 victory over Ephrata.
