Lady Mounts win two

ImageAt halftime of every game this year, the Lady Mounts have been in a close game.  Not Friday, as Penn Manor ran out to a 34-19 lead at the break, in the first section crossover game of the year.  But Brynn Lyons came to the rescue, pouring in 19 of her career-high 25 points after halftime.  When Penn Manor's potential game-winning three-pointer clanked away at the final horn, Ephrata escaped with a 57-55 win.

Lyons also did it defensively, with an amazing eight steals.  She scored 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting in the third quarter, as Ephrata scored 25 points in the frame and cut the margin to 48-44.  The sophomore guard opened the quarter with a trey, stole the ball a few seconds later, and scored a layup to give Ephrata a lead they'd never lose.

Marcy Dull nearly had a triple double, with 16 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists, and added 5 steals of her own.  Arielle Gordon added 7 assists for Ephrata, who now has sole possession of second place in Section Two, with a 4-2 mark, just one game behind Lebanon.

Earlier in the week on Tuesday, Ephrata dominated the inside against the league's best post player, building an early lead en route to a big Section Two win at home over Elizabethtown, 56-49.  Ephrata's forwards combined to shoot 10-for-11 from the field, while holding Bears' star Janelle Garber to 14 points.

Behind a strong first quarter from Nicole Martin (8 points) and Arielle Gordon (5 points), Ephrata raced out to a lead that they'd retain throughout.  The Bears closed to within five at the break and within three in the second half, but couldn't catch the Mounts.

The team's leading scorer was Arielle Gordon, who poured in 15 points while forcing the Elizabethtown defense to widen.  The forwards took advantage by making everything they shot:  Nicole Martin (5 of 6), Christine Weaver (3 of 3) and Gabrielle Hondros (2 of 2) combined to make over 90% of their shots.  Marcy Dull drew much attention and still scored 13 points while adding 10 rebounds and 5 assists.
