Mounts Maul Mules

ImageThe Ephrata Boys Soccer Team was back in action Thursday night, as they hosted the Golden Mules of Solanco. The Mules came into the game reeling from a 0-4 loss on their opening night, while the Mounts were trying to forget the frustration of walking away with an opening night tie with Elizabethtown. Unfortunately the Mounts turned their frustrations towards the Mules.

Ephrata wasted no time getting the scoring started against Solanco. In the 5th minute of the game Eric Rowits cleared a ball from the sweeper position; that Tyler Phillips battled for, beat the defender, and found the far corner of the net. Less than three minutes later Phillips found the far corner again, on a ball played through the defense by Tomas Renko.

In the 21st minute of the game, Noah Passage found himself on a breakaway when Josh Peifer played a goal kick over the whole defense. Thirteen minutes later senior Adam Reimel cleaned up some garbage in front of the net to make the score 4-0, Mounts.

With only fourteen seconds remaining, Phil Hess finished up the first half scoring with some close quarters, in the box passing with Daniel Witwer and Andy Sweigart.

The Mounts continued their rout in the second half when Reimel was fouled in the box in the 54th minute of the match. Renko neatly polished off the PK in the lower left corner.

Solanco's Zac Battiste scored their first goal of the match in the 63rd minute after a defensive breakdown.

Ephrata scored it's final goal off of a corner kick assist from Brandon Smith.

Brennen Harding ran through the ball to find the back of the net in the 73rd minute of the match.

The final score was 7-1 with the Mounts outshooting the Mares 31-10. The Mounts continue their season at home on Saturday night against Spring Grove.
