Late Goal pushes Mounts into first

ImageThe boys soccer team hosted the first place Buckskins of Conestoga Valley Wednesday night. A victory would push the Mounts into sole possession of first place in Section Two.

A tightly played first half ended in a 0-0 tie as the Buckskins aggressive double teaming defense left the Mounts with few scoring opportunities.

With 20 minutes left in the contest junior Tyler Phillips slipped through four defenders and blasted a left-footed shot past the diving John Stratton to give the Mounts the 1-0 lead.

Less then 8 minutes later however the Buckskin's answered as Julian Carvajal took a cross from Josh Martin and the score was knotted up at 1-1.

With the clock winding down and overtime feeling imminent Tom Renko (Blue Ridge Cable 11's Player of the Game) chipped a shot over the defense, that Adam Reimel was able to bounce off his chest to a cutting Nate Latshaw. Latshaw wasted little time blasting a shot past Stratton with 3:01 left in the game.

Despite being out-shot 13 to 7, the Mounts came away with a 2-1 victory and climbed into first place in Section Two.
