Eberhart and Leid advance to States

Ephrata will have a pair of representatives at the PA State Bowling Championships March 13-14 at the ABC Lances in Harrisburg.

Sophomore Christina Leid and junior Justin Eberhart both qualified for States with impressive performances at the Eastern PA Regional Championships held this past weekend at Jordan Lanes in Allentown.

Leid captured third place in the girls' tourney while Eberhart finished fourth in the boys' competition. The Top 12 girls and top 12 boys advanced to States.

Leid was ninth after the first two rounds, rolling a six-game total of 1125 pins. She advanced to the quarterfinals where she defeated Katie Smith of Wilson, 184-136. However, in the semifinals, Leid dropped a tight 179-170 decision to eventual runner-up Kelly Hitz of Annville-Cleona.

Eberhart, meanwhile, was third after two rounds with a score of 1262. He went on to defeat Cody Millheim of Milton, 209-170 in the quarterfinals to earn a trip to the semis where he faced Warwick's Justin Hammerstone. Unfortunately, Eberhart's ride ended as Hammerstone, who captured the District title a week ago and would go on to finish second, edged out the Ephrata bowler 155-150.

Eberhart, the LL League runner-up, said he was pleased to be making his first trip to the State Tournament.

"I'm definitely excited because I didn't make it last year," he said. "My goals are pretty much the same as they've been. I'd like to finish in at least the top five, but I'm going for the win."

In addition to individual play, the Ephrata girls finished 25th as a team.
